Judith Turner

A member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Judith also serves as Deputy Chief Ombudsman at the Dispute Resolution Ombudsman, Furniture and Home Improvement Ombudsman and Rail Ombudsman. She is routinely involved in guiding parties in dispute towards mutually agreeable resolutions, and signing off on binding adjudications where an outcome cannot be agreed by the parties.

As a solicitor, Judith was previously employed by a City Law firm, practising in Commercial Property law.

Judith is a regular speaker at industry and ombudsman conferences and events. Judith is the current Chair of the Ombudsman Association Policy Network and serves as a member of the Civil Justice Council’s ADR Liaison Panel. With Kevin Grix, Judith co-authored Volume 28 of Atkin's Court Forms and Precedents on Ombudsman schemes in England and Wales. Published by LexisNexis in 2020, it forms part of the UK’s only encyclopedia of civil litigation forms, precedents and procedure and is a leading authority on the process that should be followed by complainants.

Judith’s extensive experience means she is in much demand as a trainer – delivering City and Guilds accredited training courses to help businesses understand their legal obligations and how to resolve disputes in several industries.

Examples of the many and varied disputes handled by Judith include refunds for products and services, across multiple sectors, seeking to conciliate and mediate outcomes and where necessary issuing a binding adjudication. Disputes in this field have included low value (sub £100) but highly emotive issues, through to dispute values of several thousand. Judith is familiar with complex, multi-faced disputes, including those which feature Equality Act claims.
